Distance between Trestle Bents

How far apart do I need to set up trestle bents? I am setting up a level track 24" high for my steam line. Six inches apart seems excessive, I am building a 76 foot oval, and a 6inch span means 153 bents. I thought about 10 inches apart would be good, and that would take 92 bents.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I though 6" was pretty close, but is close to scale spacing. My trestle is 32" high at the high point and I settled on 9" spacing, it is 37' long and has 51 bents. I think the look is great at this spacing. look me up at the meeting, Byron Fenton
